The much-anticipated remake of the movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie is already a success as it tops Prime Video’s top list just three days after being released online.
The eight-episode series of fiction written by Donald Glover and Francesca Sloan clearly attracted Prime Video subscribers. And we understand them because Mr. and Mrs. Smith are successful.
It’s a clever mix of action, romance and humor, packed with wit and innovation from the film, with the delicious duo of Donald Glover and Maya Erskine, as well as a host of impressive guests.
The series tells the story of two loners with unwanted connections who are recruited by a mysterious spy agency that offers them a high life of espionage, wealth, world travel and a dream apartment in Manhattan.
Problem? Arranged marriage with new identities as Mr. and Mrs. John and Jane Smith. Now married, John and Jane take on a high-risk mission each week as they face a new phase in their relationship.
Their cover story becomes even more complicated when they have real feelings for each other. Which is more risky: espionage or marriage?
What do viewers think?
Did the audience like this new iteration of the famous John and Jane Smith family and spy adventures? The first feedback on the networks is quite positive with Internet users who are pleasantly surprised by this multiple recycling project in an industry used for this type of project.
Mr. and Mrs. series. Smith is really cool. I had a great time. We’re talking more about a remake of a lesser-known ’90s series with Scott Bakula than a movie with Brad and Angelina.
Anyway, very good chemistry between Donald and Maya.

I finished the TV series “Mr. and Mrs. Smith”
I was the first to complain when I saw that this remake was coming out, but after seeing it I have to apologize because I liked it (more than the movie). I found it much more entertaining, especially for its comedy, which was well balanced… pic.twitter.com/mNRXUEbuhD

I have to admit, for an ill-conceived barebones project that would have been better off not being made, the Mr. and Mrs. Smith series on Prime has been really great so far. pic.twitter.com/pOmP1jFe6w

Looking at AlloCiné’s viewer reviews, initial feedback has been quite harsh about the series, with some netizens comparing it to a movie they prefer, such as Ja Z, which gives the series a score of 1.5/5. Series:
“I prefer a movie with Brad and Angelina a thousand times over this dubious duo, tasteless, without any benefit. We are so sad that it is slow and not interesting, the actors have no charisma, it is not even needed in episode 3. In short, this It’s rubbish.”
Same disappointing story for elriad which gives 2/5 rating:
“A series that turns out to be very disappointing. A duo of actors who have no charisma, one mission per episode and which too often comes off as simplistic and ordinary. Not great humor and above all it’s talky and lacks pacing. Really sluggish. I struggled until the end Coming and I was often rushed out of boredom. Frankly an irreplaceable series.”
That’s why other members of the AlloCiné community are warning those expecting pure action in the Mr. and Mrs. Smith series that they should move on, such as denis1368 (4/5): “Awesome! I love the pacing. Those expecting an action sequence will be disappointed… but this is an intellectual romp.”.
Donald Glover and Maya Erskine in “Mr. and Mrs. Smith”
Internet user cycy8 (5/5) surpasses:
“For those who wanted an action movie like Angelina and Brady, go ahead, this will go faster. I liked this version, which shows the opposite view of the movie, which is far from a great movie, no offense. Here we find out. The characters, not Bombs exploding everywhere. And I find that the script shows subtlety, humor and logic that captivates and makes you want to know more with each episode. In short, I recommend it.”
Same as Masashi37 (4.5/5):
“It’s a nugget that can be compared to a Brad Pitt movie, but which you have to watch without trying to re-establish the connections. Here the two heroes are much more neurotic and complex, we follow them a lot in their intimacy and missions. Subtlety. The series manages to show us Their evolution as a couple over several months/years while traveling on their spy missions.
The opinions are very clear: subscribers either loved it or hated it, which explains AlloCiné’s overall viewer rating (2.5 out of 5) and the comments left. As Lecter_H (3.5/5) explains, Mr. and Mrs. Smith are “Another good little series that’s divisive” :
“The deliberate choice to advance in discovery mode with the camera accompanying the characters of the film in real time to understand what motivates the characters. This does not imply slowness, but possible fatigue if we do not hang on, as we discover the progress of the missions gradually. Nothing is predetermined, everything is mysterious, mysterious And therefore unknown at the beginning of each episode. But almost always tense, tense with exciting content.”
And what do you think about the series? Mr. and Mrs. Smith ?
