Bahia makes many changes, but beats Itabuna and leads the state


Squadron scores 5-0, reaches their fifth consecutive victory of the season and adds two more points to second-placed Juazeirense




Bahia has claimed yet another victim and continues to go strong in 2024 with five consecutive victories. On Wednesday evening (8), the Squadron made nine changes among the starters and defeated Itabuna 5-0, at the Arena Fonte Nova. Of those who played in the last round, only Caio Alexandre and Jean Lucas took to the field for the sixth round of the Bahia Championship.

The highlight was midfielder Yago Felipe who, in addition to his great performance, scored a beautiful free kick. He even started swinging again in the second phase.

With this result, the Tricolor remains at the top of the Bahia Championship, with 13 points, two more than vice-leader Juazeirense. Itabuna, on the other hand, is stuck on six points, in eighth place, and risks relegation.

Bahia becomes the key to the Copa do Nordeste, as they will visit River-PI this Saturday, at 4pm (Brasilia time), in Albertão, for the second round. For the State Championship, Rogério Ceni’s team will face the classic Ba-Vi on Sunday (18th), at 4pm (Brasilia time), at the Barradão. Itabuna will host Barcelona de Ilhéus next Wednesday at 7.15pm (Brasilia time).

The game

Despite the elastic final score, Bahia didn’t have an easy time until halfway through the first stage. However, Yago Felipe’s beautiful free-kick in the 26th minute opened the scoring. Rafael Ratão, with a header, hits the crossbar. Until, in the second half, the home team started to find the net, putting pressure on their opponent.

Jean Lucas had three chances before Ceni promoted Thaciano and Cauly. The team increases the intensity even more and scores the second goal, again with Yago after a good play by Cicinho, in the 17th minute. In the next minute, Ademir scored in coverage on a shot from Caio Alexandre. Biel subsequently replaced Everaldo and left Cauly with the task of disenchanting. The fifth and final goal of the evening, in the final stretch of the match, came from Gabriel Xavier, with a header from a corner kick by Luciano Juba.
