1- The Snow Society
The Snow Society is a 2023 film about the 1972 plane crash over the Andes. The film is based on the 2008 book by Pablo Vierci, a schoolmate of some of the plane’s passengers. Adaptation of the true story of a group of friends who survived the accident.
It tells the story of a chartered Uruguayan Air Force plane carrying a rugby team to Chile that crashed into an Andes mountain in October 1972. Of the 45 people on board, 29 survived the impact, but only 16 were rescued . , 72 days later.
The film was shot during the pandemic, with an initial visit to the Valley of Tears, the site where the plane crashed. Filming with the cast in the snow took place in Sierra Nevada, Spain
The Snow Society premiered in theaters 51 years after the plane crash and is nominated for the 2024 Oscar in the Best Makeup and Best International Film categories.
2- The persecution
The Chase (in the original) is a 2011 film. The film is about a group of surviving oil workers fighting for survival in Alaska after a plane crash.
After five hard weeks of work in an oil refinery, a group of workers return for a well-deserved rest. However, a strong storm causes the plane they were on to crash into the frozen wastes of Alaska, and only eight of them survive.
Led by expert hunter John Ottway (Liam Neeson), the men head south, where they intend to find the salvation of civilization. Fatal wounds, the constant threat of ice, and a pack of hungry wolves make the journey difficult.
It is an existential, intelligent and provocative film. The plot is simple, but the film features different characters, personalities and choices, all of which react in their own way to the risk of death.
3- Six days, seven nights
The 1998 film, starring Harrison Ford and Anne Heche, tells the story of Quinn Harris, a cargo plane pilot living on an island paradise in Polynesia. Harris is hired by executive Robin Monroe to take her to Tahiti.
During the journey, however, the plane is forced to make an emergency landing on a desert island due to a storm. Tip for getting out of dramas and plane crash tragedies. 4- Castaway
A typical American survival film. The film is directed and produced by Robert Zemeckis and also stars Helen Hunt and Nick Searcy.
Chuck Noland travels to Malaysia on business when his company plane crashes into the Pacific Ocean during a storm. He is the only survivor of the accident and ends up on a desert island. Chuck must learn to survive on site after his attempts to help run out. Furthermore, he needs to know if he will be able to return to civilization and readjust to his old life.
5- Alive
1993 film, based on Piers Paul Read’s book, Alive: The Story of the Andes Survivors, about the same plane crash in the Andes. However, Vivos is considered by many to be more faithful to reality than his previous work, the 1976 film, Survivors of the Andes.
The production tried to remain as faithful as possible to the real accident, reproducing the exact type of aircraft and also relying on the testimonies of the survivors of the accident.
The story is based on true events and is considered one of the most thrilling stories of human survival. In the film, the survivors are forced to live in sub-zero temperatures for ten weeks. The only way to stay alive is to feed on the bodies of the dead at your side.
