Despicable Me 4 gets first official poster; I wait

Universal Pictures has released the first official poster for the new Gru and company film: Despicable Me 4.

The new feature film from the most profitable animation franchise in history will be released mid-year.

In the plot, Gru (Steve Carell) and Lucy (Kristen Wiig) have gained a new family member: Gru Jr., the protagonist’s first biological child.

Just out of curiosity, the dubbed voices of the duo here in Brazil are those of Leandro Hassum and Maria Clara Gueiros.

The trailer, released at the end of January, shows that the little boy, despite looking like his father, doesn’t seem to appreciate him very much.

In addition to dealing with these family issues, which include raising his 3 adopted daughters, our antihero still has to deal with threats from a new pair of villains formed by Maxime Le Mal (Will Ferrell) and his girlfriend Valentina (Sofia Vergara).

Chris Renaud, who directed the first two films, returns for the fourth installment, with Patrick Delage as co-director and Mike White writing the screenplay. The production is responsible for Chris Meledandri, founder of Illumination.

The film is scheduled to premiere in July this year in Brazil.

The information comes from Omelette.

Remembering the story

You can watch all of these films, except Minions 2, on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, or Telecine.

Minions 2 is only on Telecinema or available for rent.

Towards 5 billion dollars

Like I said, Despicable Me is the most profitable animated franchise in history – and it’s close to breaking another record.

The 5 films made so far have already grossed $4.64 billion at the box office.

Despicable Me 4 only needs to earn another $360 million to reach the impressive $5 billion mark! It would be the first animation to achieve this feat.

And it should happen easily. Recent history shows that audiences love Gru and company.

The latest feature film, Minions: The Rise of Gru, for example, grossed $940.7 million, while Despicable Me 3 grossed $1.035 billion in theaters worldwide.

The first Minions grossed $1.159 billion, the best result of the series.

In other words, the franchise is very likely to reach $5 billion.

Recall that Despicable Me has been making history since 2017, when it surpassed Shrek as the highest-grossing animated film combined of all time.

And he did it off the back foot. At the time, Gru only had 4 films to Shrek’s 5, including “Puss in Boots” (2011).
