In the 90s, Mel Gibson became an international star thanks to his roles in Lethal Weapon and Mad Max. But in the shadow of these classics, there are some lesser-known actor-led nuggets that absolutely need to be announced. Among them, the excellent drama Forever Young, which was released in cinemas in 1993.
Mel Gibson is aging fast
Forever Young immerses viewers in 1939. Captain Daniel McCormick (Mel Gibson), an Air Force test pilot, agrees to participate in a cryogenic experiment in order to avoid seeing his wife die, falling into a coma. But an accident forces him to hibernate for half a century and he wakes up in 1992. Daniel’s body then begins to age faster than normal (making him one of the 9 characters in the film who don’t age like the others).
A great Hollywood melodrama mixed with sci-fi fun, forever Young is an original and exciting work devoid of humor, which succeeds in performance Mel Gibson, especially convincing. A film about eternal love, which made the actor want to turn to directing (it will be next year, “The Man Without a Face”).
Frodo in the casting!
Keep in mind that Forever Young was scripted by a certain JJ Abrams, the future creator of the Lost series and director of two Star Wars films, among other XXL entertainment films. To complete the beautiful picture, note that in Jamie Lee Curtis and about ten years old Elijah Wood we meet Frodo from the Lord of the Rings saga, who here takes one of the first roles.
