On the second day of the Salvador carnival, the Minister of Culture, Margareth Menezes, expressed her joy at participating again in the carnival celebration, recalling that the carnival has always played a fundamental role in her career and in Brazilian culture, especially in Bahia .
“I’m very happy, because after the pandemic I didn’t participate in the carnival, I also took part in the trio. So for me the carnival has always been an important point in my career, right? It’s an important point for Brazil, for music , for the culture and for our Bahia, right? So, I belong to a generation that, within the Carnival, we managed to expand our work. So, for me, it was a really beautiful moment, very special,” she said.
He also shared details of his participation in the cultural trio, underlining the importance of paying homage to the cultural richness of Brazil, with the presence of artists such as Chico César and Gilberto Gil.
“Look, the proposal is to truly pay homage to Brazilian culture. Both I, Chico César, and Gil, who is our greatest master, have always had a vision in relation to this cultural richness of our Brazil, leading to different understandings on this, the question of pop, the question of music from the Northeast,” he underlined.

Margareth Menezes also underlined the importance of celebrating the 50 years of Ilê Aiyê, the famous Bahian block pioneered as the first Afro block in Brazil and symbol of cultural resistance, underlining the fundamental role of Afro blocks in the fight against racism and in the promotion of culture Afro-Brazilian.
“All this was built with a lot of struggle, with a lot of resistance. Ilê brought this attitude of fighting racism to the streets, to the carnival. He took advantage of the carnival to launch this great cry and also influenced all the other movements that “Arrived all other afro blocks.
