Netflix: Clint Eastwood is giving you a week to watch one of his best movies

Clint Eastwood is a director with a sense of patriotism. When he’s behind the camera, the 93-year-old is passionate about the stories of the unsung (even if mistreated) heroes of the American nation: Navy SEAL Chris Kyle in American Sniper, US Airways pilot Sullenberger in Sally, the three Americans who thwarted an attack in 2015 At 15:17 in Paris…

In 2020, Eastwood returns to the news with The Case of Richard Jewell, which is once again inspired by a true story. In 1996, this man was a member of the Atlanta Games security team.

He is one of the first to warn about the presence of the bomb and save lives. But he soon finds himself a terrorist suspect, from hero status to the most hated man in America. He was fired by the FBI after three months, but his reputation never fully recovered, his health damaged by the experience.

A mistreated hero

Rated 4.1/5 on AlloCiné, this movie was well received by everyone. Even if it is not the best feature film of his career, subscribers and the press emphasized the power of the theme, the rush of adrenaline, the emotions arising from it and the duo Paul Walter Hauser (Jewel) / Sam Rockwell. (his lawyer). Kathy Bates (as the mother), Olivia Wilde (as the journalist) and Jon Hamm (the FBI investigator) also round out this very high-quality casting.

Here, Eastwood takes the codes that are valuable to him: in his sober but effective style, he paints a portrait of a man destroyed by society. The investigative part gives way to the defense/trial, where the story depicts how the media and federal institutions handled the case.

“Come back and be true to reality”

To give his film more authenticity, the director chose to shoot in Atlanta itself, where the games were held: “When you tell a true story, you have to tell it faithfully” will say Many decorations were recreated for the occasion.

For example, production designer Kevin Ishioka and his team were tasked with recreating the Kenny Rogers and Jack Mack & the Heart Attack concerts (don’t forget the crowd) that took place while Richard Jewell was on duty. They were able to get some advice from Rebecca Jones… the organizer of the event at the time!

The Richard Jewell Case will leave the Netflix catalog on February 18.
