The Star + platform has released the official poster, subtitled trailer and national premiere date of “Pistol”, a miniseries about the band Sex Pistols directed by Danny Boyle (“Trainspotting”).
The series tells the story of the band responsible for the punk rock revolution, as well as making a detailed reconstruction of the era. Based on “Lonely Boy: Tales From a Sex Pistol”, a book by guitarist Steve Jones, shows how Jones, singer Johnny Rotten (John Lydon), drummer Paul Cook and bassist Glen Matlock – later replaced by Sid Vicious to know how to sound too good – created chaos and distortion, instigated by agitated impresario Malcolm McLaren, changing rock forever.
The plot also highlights the original punk troupe, which was based in Vivienne Westwood’s Sex boutique.
The screenplay is written by Craig Pearce (“Moulin Rouge!”) And Frank Cottrell Boyce (responsible for another work from this period: the film “The Party Never Ends”).
The cast includes Toby Wallace (“The Society”) as Jones, Anson Boon (“Slaying Predators”) as Rotten, newcomer Jacob Slater as Cook, Fabien Frankel (“The Serpent”) as Matlock and Louis Partridge (“Enola Holmes”). as Vicious, Thomas Brodie-Sangster (“Maze Runner”) as McLaren, Dylan Llewellyn (“Derry Girls”) as Wally Nightingale, who has performed with Jones, Sydney Chandler (“Don’t Worry Darling”) as singer Chrissie Hynde (from the Pretenders), Emma Appleton (“The Witcher”) as Nancy Spungen (Vicious’s fiancée), Beth Dillon (“Four Weddings and a Funeral”) as Siouxie Sioux (from the band Siouxie and the Banshees) and Maisie Williams (“The Game of Thrones”) as punk icon Jordan, an actress and model linked to Westwood, who followed the band’s emergence in London and became a symbol of punk culture for her style.
The production was threatened by a lawsuit from John Lydon, the former Johnny Rotten, but the other members of the band defeated him in court to allow the Sex Pistols recordings to be heard on the series.
“Pistol” premiered on May 31 in the US and divided critics, only achieving a 56% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The launch in Brazil will take place on August 31st.
