The detective film Ronin (“Ronin” is a samurai insulted because his master died and therefore could not protect him) is distinguished by a very solid casting. Alongside Robert De Niro and Jean Reno, we meet Sean Bean, known for his role as Ned Stark in Game of Thrones and Boromir in Lord of the Rings.
But Ronin’s feature was also shot entirely in France, shooting between Paris, Cannes and Arles.
For his film, John Frankenheimer wanted everything to be filmed live, without special effects or passenger cars. He even forbade cheating on camera speed. To solve the problem, the production then called in professional drivers, which made it possible to drive the cars at a speed of 160 km/h in the Paris tunnel of Les Halles. In total, more than 300 cars were used in the wrong-way ring road scene.
