After 5 successful seasons, the series La Casa de Papel is over. ᲗAlmost. To take advantage of this international phenomenon, Netflix will release Money Heist: Korea, a remake of the Spanish program, transferred, as its title suggests, to a world where two Koreas are united.
There is everything: robbery – definitely – plan, red combinations and nicknames of the characters, which basically remain the same. This new version is also quite faithful to its model – with a few exceptions. One detail that is important is still different: the mask.
In Money robbery, He uses the qualities of the famous Spanish artist Salvador Dali. It is possible to identify his large wide eyes, long eyebrows and especially his mustache – the physical signature of the artist. The Dali figure is a form of resistance against social conventions and capitalism – the theme at the center of the series.
The mask used in the Korean version had to be different to fit the culture of the country. This is a hajo mask that is very common in traditions and was used for ceremonies in the 12th century. There are several types of masks in Korean culture, why is this one and not the other?
The robbers and their hajo masks “Money Heist: Korea”.
To understand, you have to go back to one of the legends that explains how it was created. The story begins in the kingdom of Gorio. Artist Heo lives in a village that suffers from terrible poverty. One night he dreams that the spirit of the mountain prophesies that poverty will disappear on the day when all the inhabitants of the village dance with masks on their faces.
For this to happen, Heo must make these masks while avoiding any human contact. For more than a hundred days, the artist has been isolated in his workshop. A madly in love woman visits him at the end of isolation, their eyes meet and Heo collapses. He dies instantly.
In the series, the participants of the robbery symbolize the villagers who wear masks in the hope of ending endless poverty.
