Beatriz Zanardo Brandolise, 22, celebrates admission to her dream university and the success of her father’s treatment
Summary
Beatriz Zanardo Brandolise finally obtained the title of Economic Sciences at the University of São Paulo (USP) and the State University of Campinas (Unicamp), ranking first in these courses.
After three years of trying to pass the entrance exam and facing adversities along the way, including her father’s cancer diagnosis, Beatriz Zanardo Brandolise will finally be able to realize her dream of studying economics. This year, the 22-year-old graduated from the University of São Paulo (USP), Piracicaba and the State University of Campinas (Unicamp) in Economic Sciences. And her recognition was even more special: she came first in both high schools.
Says the student, who lives with her mother and father in Tietê, a city in the hinterland of São Paulo Earth It was simply a joy to see the result. “I was very happy. I never imagined I would pass. My parents were very excited,” she recalls.
Although very happy with both approvals, Beatriz has already made her choice and decided to enroll at Unicamp, which has always been her first university choice. She had dreamed of studying there ever since she participated in the Mathematics Olympiad at the institute. “All that time studying and preparing was worth it,” she says.
The path to university
The path to approval was not easy. In the first year of preparation for the entrance exam, in 2021, Beatriz studied alone. She says it has been “very complicated” due to the covid-19 pandemic and that she hasn’t been able to find a place. In the other two years you won a scholarship on the Anglo Course, in the online module, and received assistance from the course during the period.
His study routine was intense. He started at 7am and only stopped at 8pm, with some rest breaks. The student tried to attend classes in real time to enjoy the interaction with teachers and classmates. In addition to attending classes, Beatriz reports that doing as many simulations as possible was one of her priorities. She also spent time practicing writing and took extra math lessons.
On weekends, he continued his studies only on Saturdays and reserved Sundays to rest and regain energy to continue the process. “On Sundays I was free, even away from my cell phone and computer. I liked to cook, do something related to gardening and spend more time with my pets,” she says.
USP and Unicamp remain at the top of the university rankings
Father’s cancer diagnosis
Along the way, however, an additional obstacle emerged: in late 2022, his father was diagnosed with colon cancer, a tumor that develops in the large intestine. “It was the biggest challenge of the process. This last year involved studying for the entrance exam, but also following up on my father’s treatment. He had to undergo a major operation,” he recalls.
Fortunately, Beatriz’s father’s treatment was successful and she was able to move forward towards approval. “Time has passed, she has recovered and today she has an almost normal routine and she receives some medical treatment.”
For those preparing for the entrance exam this year, the new Unicamp freshman advises to be very patient with the study process and believe that it is possible to secure a spot in the college of their dreams. “Remember that public college is a place for everyone, and one day you will make it.”
