Technical analyzes continue to evaluate the conditions of the residential building evacuated on the afternoon of Tuesday 13thTO Great beach, on the coast of Sao Paulo. The administration and the building’s construction company will have to submit reports to the town hall by Thursday the 15th.

In an interview with Radio Eldorado On Wednesday the 14th, Lieutenant Maxwel Souza, spokesperson for the Civil Protection of the State of São Paulo, declared that monitoring will continue in the coming days to assess the situation of the 23-storey building. There are 133 apartments spread over 19 floors. The other floors are garage and mezzanine.
“The construction company will have to deliver a report to the town hall by Thursday, highlighting the possible causes. These are technical documents that will have to be presented, then a meeting will be held with the engineers of the Urban Planning Secretariat of Praia Grande, the Civil Protection and the Construction Department itself to determine whether the conditions exist to keep this building standing and, if so, what work may be necessary to restore the building,” Souza said.
According to him, the ground movement has already been ruled out. “Only the building in question had problems. The neighboring buildings were not damaged,” the lieutenant added.

“It is a large building that is used for summer holidays, with at least 30 apartments intended for this purpose. The others live there. During the Carnival the place was very busy, when people began to hear noises caused by the breaking of the beams of the the columns.support,” he reinforced.
On Wednesday morning, residents were allowed to go up to the apartments and take away their belongings. There is no information on where they should go until the situation is resolved.
According to information initially released by the firefighters, the building, located on Avenida Jorge Hagge, in the Aviação neighborhood, had problems with columns installed underground. “Preliminarily, five columns had been reported, but, after inspection, it was found that the tremor hit three underground columns,” the Civil Protection of the State of Sao Paulo said on Wednesday morning.

It was also called Praia Grande Difesa Civile e reported that the property had “structural collapse”. After the residents had been removed, the damaged area was shored up to avoid possible collapses.

“The emergency works were carried out by the building construction company. The objective was to stabilize the columns. In the next few days there will be new inspections to verify the final work. Everything will be managed by the Urban Planning Department of the municipality of Praia Grande,” the state agency informed later Tuesday.
