The Ministry of Justice has requested that the names of the two prisoners who escaped from the Mossoró federal penitentiary be included in the Interpol wanted list and in the border protection system, to prevent a possible escape from the country. The information was confirmed by the secretary of Criminal Policies, André Garcia, in a press conference held on Thursday 15th.
“None of the possibilities, easing, easing, or whatever the investigation indicates, is ruled out. We can classify the situation as a crisis of the prison system, because the fact is unusual. We must be very cautious and act correctly and with energy. And it is that’s why we’re here, to make sure that trials play out as they should. And any type of cause, responsibility and person allegedly involved in aiding and abetting, for example, we will identify and apply the appropriate punishments,” Garcia said.
The two prisoners escaped from the Federal Penitentiary of Mossoró, located in the western region of Rio Grande do Norte, on the morning of this Wednesday 14th. The escapees are Rogério da Silva Mendonça and Deibson Cabral Nascimento, also known as “Tatu” or “Deisinho” .
Both are originally from Acre and have been detained in the Mossoró federal penitentiary since September 27, 2023, as announced at the time by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security. The case marks the first recorded escape in the history of the federal penitentiary system, which includes five maximum security prisons.
Who are the fugitives
The previous year, the State Secretariat of Public Security in Acre had reported that Rogério and Deibson were among the inmates involved in the July 2023 rebellion in the Antônio Amaro Alves maximum security prison. Five prisoners were murdered at the time.
Deibson was arrested in August 2015 and also served time in the federal prison in Catanduvas, Paraná. He has convictions and is accused of involvement in robberies, robberies, robberies, murders and robberies.
