Braskem (BRKM5): Sale Rumors Push Price, Shares Jump Nearly 10%

The actions of Braskem (BRKM5) rose more than 9.6% intraday this Friday (16) around 1.45 pm, as the financial market digested new rumors about an advance in the sale of Novonor’s stake in the company.

The first news emerged through the article by journalist Lauro Jardim, who revealed that the president of Petrobras (PETR4), Jean Paul Pratesspent the Carnival period in the Middle East, where he met representatives of Adn – Abu Dhabi Oil Company, a major stakeholder purchase of a stake in Braskem.

According to the editorialist, Jean Paul Prates met Sultan Al Jaber, current president of Adnoc. In this sense, negotiations for the purchase of the share have resumed Novonor in the petrochemical sector.

The move is relevant because, although the slice to be sold belongs to Novonor, the green light from the Brazilian state company is required, given that the company has the right of preference in the purchase.

Subsequently, Prates himself reported on a social network that he had met in Abu Dhabi with the Minister of Industry and Technology of the United Arab Emirates, president of COP28 and also CEO of Adnoc.

The meeting, according to him, had Braskem as its theme, as well as other opportunities in the offshore gas sector, refining and other opportunities in the petrochemical sector.

Novonor currently controls Braskem, with 50.1% of the joint capital, while Petrobras holds 47%.

Prates, however, has already stated that the sector is not limited to this Braskem, but has not yet decided whether he will remain with the company. According to him, several meetings are necessary because the topic is extremely complex.
