The Senate analyzes the discount on driving license renewal for motorists over 50 years old

The bill establishes a reduction of 50% to 70% on the entire amount charged to other drivers by the traffic enforcement body

The Economic Affairs Committee (CAE) of Federal Senate the discussion on the bill which establishes that motorists aged 50 and over are entitled to a discount when renewing their driving license will open next Tuesday, the 20th, from 10am national driving license (CNH). This is the first meeting of the year for this parliamentary group, which will discuss six other topics during the meeting.

According to the text of the proposal, the discount will be calculated on the entire amount charged to other drivers by the transit executive body. Created by Senator Fernando Dueire (MDB-PE), the initiative proposes a 50% reduction in the fare for drivers aged 50 or over and for those under 70. For those aged 70 or over the reduction will be 70%.

According to the author, the initiative is a way to promote equality and inclusion in road traffic since, in his opinion, it is not fair to charge the same amount of an administrative fee to a driver whose driving license has a period of shorter validity.

In favor of the project, the rapporteur, Senator Teresa Leitão (PT-PE), states that the discount on driving license renewal for people over 50 is a noteworthy issue. Because according to her, citizens between the ages of 50 and 70 must renew their driving license twice every ten years. So, for the parliamentarian, it is fair that they pay half as much as those who can renew them once a decade. The same reasoning would apply to those over 70, who must renew their driving license three times every decade.

If approved by the CAE, the matter will go to the Constitution and Justice Committee (CCJ), where it will be examined for a final decision. In other words, without the need for a vote in the plenary of the Chamber.

On the agenda of the meeting on the 20th, the CAE will also deal with a bill that includes credit and debit cards as a means of paying tolls on federal highways and another that creates a computerized register of funded public works with federal resources.
