But where Vermines involved real spiders that were enlarged and reworked by Mac Guff’s studio in post-production, Sting uses only practical effects. The Australian feature film Spider-Man was created by Weta Workshop, the studio behind The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Blade Runner 2049 and King Kong.
Spider-Man thirsts for… pure blood
Directed by Kiah Roache-Turner, Sting begins on a cold and stormy night in New York. A mysterious object falls from the sky and passes through the window of a ruined building. It’s an egg, and out of that egg comes a strange little spider. The creature was discovered by Charlotte, a rebellious 12-year-old girl obsessed with comic books. Her mother and stepfather monopolize Charlotte’s little brother. A little girl becomes attached to a spider and keeps it as a secret pet. But Sting grows out of proportion, as does his appetite for pure blood. Charlotte is the only one who can stop his destructive power.
Starring Ryan Corrie, Alila Brown, Penelope Mitchell, Robin Nevin and Jermaine Fowler, the feature film opens in US theaters on April 12. So far, there are no plans to perform in France.
