Is Madame Web with Dakota Johnson a good movie? Viewers have their say on the Spider-Man spin-off

In 2024, the only Deadpool & Wolverine will hit theaters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But Sony’s taking care of the rest, with no less than three feature films set in the universe launched by Venom in 2018 and featuring Morbius as well.

Or it’s Madame Web. Spider-Man’s mentor in the comics, he works here without Peter Parker in the form of Dakota Johnson. To protect three teenagers whom Ezekiel Sims (Tahar Rahim) wants to harm. But what did early viewers think of the SJ Clarkson-directed film?

Averaged 1.6 out of 5 from 124 ratings*, Madame Web kicks off Sony’s Marvel Universe behind Venom (3.1), Morbius (2.3) and Venom 2 (2.1).

For Dakota Johnson, that’s worse than Persuasion (2.2) and Cha Cha Real Smooth (3) in her recent career. Same observation for Tahar Rahim, Don Juan (1.7) and Napoleon (2.3).

Positive and constructive opinions are not legion, which is better reflected by the average rating of Madam Web. But the main character and his translator are among those who survived: “A small film without too much ambition, but still worth watching. First of all, because we will discover new characters from the Marvel Universe”tell us Garnierix (3.5 out of 5) while MelMc (4 of 5) emphasizes that “The lead actress is great.”

This movie is a teen movie that is aimed more at the female audience as it revolves around three teenage girls and a young woman. Girls also have the right to identify with superheroes.

Among the other actors, Sydney Sweeney’s name is regularly heard, and the positioning of the feature film seems to have been satisfied. Vanderstielen Karim (3.5 out of 5): “This movie is a teen movie aimed more at a female audience because it revolves around three teenage girls and a young woman. Girls can identify with superheroes too! And that doesn’t get in the way, it’s not bad at all, it’s a bit slow, the action scenes are heavy, The characters are very beautiful.”

This netizen also hails the performance of Tahar Rahim (“Very believable as Ezekiel Sims, he is the most interesting and intense character in the film”), while others express relief at a better (or less worse) outcome than they feared. as Theo J (“With the massive destruction that this movie experienced beforehand, my expectations were low. In the end, we had a really good time.”), which gives it a rating of 3.5 out of 5. But there are few of them.

They didn’t like it

“Honestly, I’ve never seen a movie with such a dirty script”direct attack Reviews movies (2 out of 5), while Jean Bastien Leandre (same ranking, with stars only for Dakota Johnson) goes even further: “Aside from the scene between the warehouse fire and the dinner (…) the rest is sent with a crazy script shortcut, special effects created by a 9th grade intern, a trio of young teenagers who are absolutely not credible and not very brilliant.” by their actions, as well as such a tasteless villain.’

Most of them are the promotions that make the film disappointing: “Bug Trailer”condemns IMC-3 (1.5 out of 5) and all color (1 in 5) speaks “Dangerous and bad communication”Echoes of netizens who, even among those who liked it, criticized the fact that it had less to offer than advertised.

I have never seen a movie with such a dirty plot.

As is often the case with this type of blockbuster, loyalty to the comics is prominent, but Madame Web plays the origin story card, allowing her to take liberties. On the other hand, as in Venom and Morbius, the absence of Spider-Man is once again criticized and regretted. But not so much as the feeling of emptiness that comes from wholeness.

“Disaster, pure failure, everything is automated. Nothing explored in depth either in terms of characters or themes (none)”sigh Dimitri V. (0.5 out of 5) and Archie62 (same note) is not more positive: “I’m a big fan of Marvel, but I have to admit that this movie is a total disaster. Nothing is right. Casting, repetitive story and bad scenes. I’m really disappointed. I was so sad that I thought about leaving the theater.”

Disaster, total disaster, everything is automated.

“The carnage continues, and everything associated with the Marvel license today remains a cinematic disappointment.”concludes Rush007 (0.5 out of 5) whose first review on AlloCinĆ© will remain killer to say the least.

in total

Dakota Johnson and the heroine she plays are saving furniture for Internet users, some of whom are pleasantly surprised by the results. But they are in the minority as Madame Webb has been attacked for its script, its broken promises, its villain played by Tahar Rahim who divides, its production…

And you ? What did you think of Madame Web?
