Shang-Chi: Press pause at 14 minutes and 19 seconds and take a good look at this poster

Introduced to the public in 2021, Shan-Chi joins the large Marvel superhero family with Shan-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings. In just two hours, we discover a host of new characters, and in particular Sean Alia’s Shan-Chi, her complicated family history and her ability to master the artifact known as the “Ten Rings.”

The 25th Marvel film, Shang-Chi is played by Simu Liu, an actor who has since been seen again in Barbie alongside Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie. It takes place sometime after the events of Avengers: Endgame, in which several heroes were sacrificed to defeat the formidable Thanos and bring back the people he killed.

Shang-Chi was accused of “stealing money from the Chinese public”!

In the featurette airing tonight on TF1, discover not another appearance of the characters or a reference to the comics, but a detail that emphasizes the consistency of the Marvel universe.

At 14 minutes and 19 seconds into the film, we can see Shang-Chi walking through the streets of San Francisco pasting a series of posters on the walls. All are related to an event in the Marvel Universe, nicknamed “the blip” in English and “the blackout” in French: the moment when Thanos, with a snap of his fingers, caused half the universe to explode.

This decorative element of Shang-Chi is especially suggested by a particular poster, which has the name “Blip-Sync”. But what does that mean? It was one of the screenwriters who responded after the Vanity Fair journalist’s tweet was deleted, but is still quoted on the site Screen ratio :

Blip-Sync is “The dating app for those who are overshadowed”Namely, every person who was “darkened” by Thanos for 5 years and brought back to life, traumatized, during the Avengers: Endgame, can meet victims like them in this app. This allows them to connect with people who have experienced the same tragic disappearance.

A tip of the hat to the film’s prop makers for helping to keep Marvel’s connected universe cohesive with this kind of detail.
