“Oppenheimer” was the big winner at the BAFTA Film Awards, presented by the Academy of Film and Television Arts of the United Kingdom, held at the Royal Festival Hall in the Southbank Centre, London, this Sunday (18/2). The film was awarded seven times during the so-called “British Oscars”, including the main prize of the evening.
Awards for “Oppenheimer” included best picture, director for Christopher Nolan, actor for Cillian Murphy, supporting actor for Robert Downey Jr., as well as cinematography, editing and score.
More victories and defeats
Yorgos Lanthimos’ fantasy comedy “Poor Creatures” was the second most awarded feature film, winning five BAFTA trophies, including one for Emma Stone as best actress. Next up was Jonathan Glazer’s “Zone of Interest,” which won three times, including Best British Film and Film Not Spoken in English.
Martin Scorsese’s crime western, “Killers of the Flower Moon,” which had received nine nominations, remained winless, as did “Barbie” and “Maestro.” Among the talents, German star Sandra Hüller was the most defeated, having been nominated twice, for supporting role in “Zone of Interest” and leading actress for “Anatomy of a Fall”. In the end, the Best Supporting Actress trophy went to Da’Vine Joy Randolph for “The Rejects,” while Emma Stone won the BAFTA for Best Actress.
