In A Better Life, Even More Beautiful, Diane Dassin plays Jennifer Masseron, the office’s new medical secretary who helps Gabrielle (Joachim Latzko), Babette (Marie Reasch) and Leah (Marie Heneres).
A true ray of sunshine, she quickly wins the hearts of the locals, especially Samuel (Inaki Lartigue), who doesn’t seem immune to her charms. During a visit to the filming of the series last December, AlloCiné caught up with the actress to tell us about her arrival in Plus belle la vie, encore plus belle.
AlloCiné: We were introduced to Jennifer’s character a few weeks ago, can you introduce us?
Diane Daninitz : I play Jennifer Masseron, the office’s new medical secretary. So I work with Dr. Riva and Leah and Babette Nebut. I am quite a happy, bright and cheerful character. I’m going to bring a little comedy.
What did you like most about the character when you were casting for the series?
These are exactly comedy scenes. I found them to be very well written and a joy to play. I told myself that it would be great to have a role like this in the long run.
It’s the sunny side of the character that really appealed to me. It also shakes things up. Lives, makes mistakes, is spontaneous and direct.
Have you already watched Plus belle la vie before jumping into the rest of the series?
Yes, I had seen a few episodes because I had a lot of actor friends in them. But I never followed diligently because it is too time consuming. Once a series has more than 6 episodes, I rarely get an adventure.
So I didn’t watch Plus belle la vie every day, but obviously I knew about it. It’s a cult series, hard to miss. But I also find it interesting to come to the set and not know everything.
For example, I didn’t know all the connections between the characters. I liked discovering certain elements. I wasn’t bothered by preconceived notions about the characters.
Do you have any memories from the first day of filming?
It was a wonderful day. I shot my first real scene in the series. I was immediately able to respond to Joachim Latzko, Marie Heneres and Marie Reasche. So I immediately found my set and the actors I was going to play with. And they all made me feel very welcome. It was a recovery for them too, so we were all in the same boat.
What was your experience before joining Plus belle la vie?
I have done many different things. I played theater and musicals. I was in Mozart’s rock opera. Before that I had roles in Julie Lescaut and Profile. I played in the movie Love is better for two.
I really like to go from one world to another and since I am also a singer, I also give concerts. I also like to switch from one role to another. For example, at the moment, I am filming in parallel with my role in Plus belle la vie in the TV series Monsieur Parizot.
And for this series, I play a cold and tough character, totally opposite to Jennifer’s character. That’s what I find interesting about acting. And what’s cool about integrating the daily series is that I’ll be able to track my character’s evolution over time.
So I’ll be able to go through a lot of different emotions while being in the same character’s shoes. It’s really interesting.
It was already on the profile. I entered the series by playing a character in a comedy, then I became a police officer and experienced much more dramatic moments. And that’s the whole point of working on a series, whether it’s daily or not. We can really go far with heroes.
How did you adapt to the rhythm of everyday life, which is very intense?
I’m not on the main arch at the moment, so I don’t take it every day. My pace is intense because I have two shots at once. But I think it’s the tempo.
There is a lot of text to remember, but the advantage is that the shooting is in Marseille, I can work on the train. It’s almost more difficult when I’m shooting in Paris because I have my family life to manage at the same time.
Therefore, it is more difficult to find time for yourself and work. The train becomes my workplace. It’s different logistics, but I’m fine with it.
Do you already have an idea of what the writers are planning for your character?
I don’t know at all. I tried to research them, but they wouldn’t tell me much. I think they want it to be a surprise even for us. We were told during casting that we were going to explore the gray areas. I tried to find out what was going to happen to me, or to find out something about the character’s past, but they didn’t tell me anything.
Did you feel any pressure to join the cast of Plus belle la vie, even plus belle? The audience is really waiting for the rest of the series…
The pressure is real. Fans are not happy about the presence of new and old characters. But we try to concentrate on work and not think about it because, unfortunately, we can’t do anything. If we don’t like it, we don’t like it… it’s part of the game, but we’re proud of what we all do together. This is the most important thing.
