Rio becomes a cultural hub that showcases the relationship between Italy and Brazil


The inauguration is part of the celebrations for 150 years of immigration

The new “Italian Cultural Center Rio – art, design and innovation”, created by the Consulate General of Italy, the Italian Cultural Institute and the European Institute of Design (IED), will be inaugurated this Thursday (22nd) in Rio de Janeiro. The opening date was chosen to celebrate the National Day of Italian Immigrants in Brazil.

The space is located in the Casa d’Italia building, in the center of the Wonderful City, and has almost 500 m2, including lounge and mezzanine, in a project to host art, fashion and design exhibitions; events in segments such as gastronomy, technology and innovation; as well as courses, seminars and conferences.

The first events will be temporary exhibitions. One of these, “1874-2024: 150 years of friendship and bond between Italy and Brazil, together towards the future”, will have as a key piece a 42 m² graphite panel by the artist Bruno Big depicting the arrival of immigrants, thus such as videos and thematic panels on the influence of the phenomenon.

The other, “On Architecture – Italian Presence in the Landscape of Rio”, will contain 40 images of architectural pearls captured by Aristides Corrêa Dutra.

The new official logo for the 150th anniversary of Italian immigration to Brazil will also be on display, chosen through a competition with students from the country’s Italian schools.

The winner was 17-year-old Joshua Azze Distel’s design, which depicts a ship with the stylized number “150” integrated into the figure.

Ambassador Alessandro Cortese and the Italian Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Edmondo Cirielli, will be present at the inauguration. .
