“I spent lavishly.”
It was with these four little words, symbols of wealth and insanity portrayed by John Hammond, that the billionaire bid farewell to Jurassic Park at the end of Spielberg’s film. As a helicopter prepares to evacuate him and his guests from Isla Nublar, and his prized dinosaurs eat each other in the main park complex, the entrepreneur watches his dream crumble before his eyes.
- Jurassic Park in 1 hour and 30 seconds: The best scene in the movie is here!
A pretty dark conclusion for the character. But the billionaire, played by Richard Attenborough in the feature film — and seen briefly in The Lost World a few years later — fares relatively well, especially when you compare his fate to that which awaited John Hammond. Original work.
swallowed by Compsognatus
Indeed, in the science fiction novel written in 1990 by Michael Crichton (also known for writing Westworld), Hammond did not leave Isla Nublar with the other characters, but retired to his pavilion alone to reflect on the failure of his amusement park. On the way, in the middle of the jungle, he fell into a ravine and was swallowed alive by a horde of tiny dinosaurs: the magnificent Compsognathus.
This fate, much more sinister and decisive than Hammond’s in the film, is very reminiscent of a scene from The Lost World in which Stark’s character is isolated from a group to satisfy a natural need and is attacked. Terrible creatures.
