Nimona, the 2024 Oscar-nominated animated film, can now be watched for free on YouTube. Netflix published the production in full, with original audio in English and without Portuguese subtitles, on its official network channel.
Released by Netflix in June, the film has already received two nominations for the Annie Awards, known as the “Oscars of animation”.

Synopsis
Nimona is a shapeshifting teenager who teams up with Ballister Blackheart, a knight accused of a crime he didn’t commit. Together, the two fight against the Institute’s controlling forces. With contrasting personalities, the pair develop an unusual friendship that faces challenges to maintain, as Nimona transforms into the monster Blackheart swore to kill.
The animation is based on the comic by ND Stevenson and directed by Nick Bruno and Troy Quane, the duo of ‘An Animal Spy’. Chloë Grace Moretz (The 5th Wave) plays the lead role.
The cast also includes Riz Ahmed, Eugene Lee Yang (Star Wars: Visions), RuPaul Charles (RuPaul’s Drag Race), Indya Moore (Pose), Frances Conroy (Dial Amiga Para Matar), Lorraine Toussaint (She-Ra and the Princesses of Power), Beck Bennett (Ducktales), Julio Torres (Tuca & Bertie) and Sarah Sherman (Saturday Night Live).
Nimona controversy
Initially Nimona would have been produced by Disney but, presumably, due to the LGBTQIA+ theme present in the production, the platform would have discarded the project. Netflix took up the challenge and, after years of production, came to streaming and achieved a 94% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
It is currently competing for the title of best animation of the year at the 2024 Oscars, along with The Boy and the Crane, Elements, My Robot Friend and Spider-Man: Through the Spider-Verse. In addition to being available for free on YouTube, Nimona remains in the Netflix catalog.
