The comparison is important to keep the teams close to the ranking area; Torino is tenth in Italian and Lazio is eighth
This Thursday (22nd), Torino and Lazio face each other, in a match postponed from the 21st round of the Italian Championship. The clash will be important to keep alive the teams’ chances of reaching European competitions. Separated by just one point, the teams try to reach the G-6 of the championship: the Turin team are tenth, while the Lazio team are eighth.
Despite being low in the table, Torino have better recent form than Lazio. The team is unbeaten in six matches and has gained significant momentum in the standings by beating Napoli, Cagliari and Lecce. The team, in fact, has lost only one of the last ten matches: against Fiorentina, a direct competitor for a continental place.
The capital team hasn’t done very well in the last few games. Despite good growth at the beginning of the year, the team was relegated and is trying to recover to catch up with Roma, its biggest rival. In sixth place the Giallorossi would have a place in the Conference, while fifth place, currently occupied by Bologna, leads to the Europa League. So winning this match away from home is fundamental.
Both teams have South Americans as some of their highlights. Torino count Colombian Zapata as their top scorer, with eight goals so far. If the number 91 is far from Inter’s Lautaro Martínez, with 20, the Brazilian Felipe Anderson is Lazio’s assist leader, with six, just two less than Milan’s Giroud, who has eight.
