Last weekend of public swimming pools in Porto Alegre

The 2023-2024 summer period is coming to an end in Porto Alegre’s public swimming pools, and this will be the last weekend in which the units will welcome swimmers to cool off from the heat. The bathing period and lessons in the spaces will last until next Thursday, the 29th.

Débora Garcia, head of the municipal department of sport, leisure and youth (Smelj), celebrates this year the great movement in public swimming pools, both in free baths and in aquagym and swimming courses. In some places, registration was sold out.

The units have different opening and closing times, which can be consulted on Secretariat’s Instagrambut they will all open on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th, in the afternoon.

During the period in which the swimming pools were closed, the Municipality of Porto Alegre, through Smelj, carried out improvements to the spaces and training for employees to prepare the units to welcome the population. New showers and taps were installed, as well as maintenance of electricity and toilets in the units.

The swimming pool of the Parque Madepinho Community Center (Cecopam) reopened on February 21st, after having been closed due to the effects of the storm that hit Porto Alegre on January 16th.

In addition to the renovation works, a qualification course was offered for employees responsible for swimming pool maintenance, promoted by the Brazilian Chemical Association of RS (ABQ-RS), at Cecoflor. Professionals have learned the importance of taking care of chlorine, preserving filtration and the risks associated with not treating water.

Once a week, ABQ technicians visit the units to verify water treatment, perform analyzes and assist in the process of caring for the pools to accommodate swimmers.
