Encarnados scores 4-0 at Portimonense, taking them to 58 points and thus forcing Sporting to win the group in order not to lose contact in the standings
Benfica did their homework and once again went top of the Portuguese league. After all, the Lisbon team beat Portimonense 4-0 this Sunday (25th), in the 23rd round. Rafael Silva (twice), David Neres and Di María scored the goals at the Estádio da Luz.
The Encarnados thus reach 58 points, three more than arch-rival Sporting, who play again on Sunday against Rio Ave. Portimonense, however, remains in 14th place, parked with 22 points.
Coach Roger Schmidt’s team thus reaches their fourth victory in the last six games. In fact, they maintain a positive balance against Portimonense, who continues to fight against relegation to the Second Division. Coach Paulo Sérgio’s team hasn’t known what it means to win for almost a month, when they defeated Boavista.
