‘You Don’t Need a Bodyguard’: This Jedi Doesn’t Confirm Kylo Ren’s Lightsaber in Star Wars!

With each new movie in a beloved franchise, it’s not uncommon for fans to think about possible changes, from equipment changes to new costumes and other props.

However, in 2015, when the highly anticipated Force Awakens was released, the famous Episode VII of the Star Wars saga, which marked the beginning of a new era of the franchise, no one expected that the new saber Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) laser. First seen briefly in the film’s first trailer, it’s getting just as much attention — and not necessarily in a good way. Many fans have spoken out on the subject, expressing their anger and above all confusion, including the former Jedi Knight himself, a certain Ewan McGregor…

He stated this many times during various interviews: Ewan McGregorDear Obi-Wan Kenobi’s translator from the 2000s prequel, not a fan of Kylo Ren’s weapon design. At least, that’s what he told various media a few months before the release of the movie, when he was promoting his movie “Last Days in the Desert”. For example, in an interview with IndieWire at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, he expressed his enthusiasm for the release of the new film, but with reservations…

I’m as excited as anyone else. I’ve seen the trailer and it looks like he absolutely nailed it and rightly so. But I’m not sure about the traffic light cross guard. If you fight the traffic light correctly, you don’t need it.

And it wasn’t the first time the actor shared his thoughts on the new Jedi accessory. Speaking to MTV earlier that year at the Sundance Film Festival, he humorously stated:You don’t need protection. If you know how to drive a traffic light, you don’t need a stupid guard. We did very well, the Jedi Order managed without guards for hundreds of millions of years.

At the time, there were many problems with this new design, including that these attachments could be potentially dangerous to the wielder of the saber, or that your opponent’s saber could simply cut through the side-guard spout, causing them to malfunction. Or it doesn’t work at all.

  • “Every day I remember this”: This is one of the most memorable scenes in Star Wars, and Adam Driver has always heard about it.

Lightsabers have always been portrayed as civilized and elegant weapons, the weapons of a precise and highly skilled warrior – and its additions then seemed unnecessary and more decorative or placed there to show off.

That’s a very Disney thing, isn’t it?“- he added Ewan McGregor laughs

Since then, we can also hear Obi-Wan Kenobi mocking the flash in question in the video game Star Wars Battlefront II. “This lightsaber appears to have been created by a child. The character repeats every time he faces Kylo Ren. The fun detail can be found in the video below, which also features all of the interviewsEwan McGregor on this topic.
