The fans of Abel Ferreira’s team don’t like Arena Barueri, just look at the crowds that attend the matches
Palmeiras fans have problems with Barueri Arenalocated on the outskirts of the city and whose concession belongs to the president Leila Pereira. Enthusiastic about the team Allianz Park, the fans do not have the same affection or presence in the temporary home. With a capacity of 31 thousand fans, the Arena Barueri receives much less than at the matches. Against Mirassol on Saturday, the crowd witnessed the 3-1 victory 11,774 people. Against Corinthians, in a 2-2 draw, they achieved their record appearances: 29,647almost maximum capacity.
It hasn’t always been this way. Last season, when they needed to use the stadium, the fans didn’t show up. For the Brasileirão, three games had low occupancy: 17,049 against Santos; 17,301 against Atletico-PR; and 19,358 in the duel with Inter. Even in the first match of the Paulistão 2023 final against Água Santa, 22,896 people from Palmeiras were present in the arena, when Abel’s team lost and then became champions at the Allianz.
If the fans don’t like Barueri’s team, because Palmeiras doesn’t return, then we play MorumBisas it has done throughout its history and more recently in the sixth round of last year’s State Championship against Santos in front of 49 thousand people?
Yesterday Santos played the duel with São Bernardo at the San Paolo stadium and had the support of a good number of fans in the capital, with 50 thousand people paying homage to Serginho Chulapa, one of the team’s greatest scorers. It was also the attendance record for this tournament. I’m sure the Palmeirasian will go to MorumBis.
This, obviously, as an alternative until the imminent regularization of Allianz Parque. What happened at the stadium is unacceptable because it distanced its fans from the arena, where the “fan and team” combination worked very well. And, between us, this is what matters in football.
But after Leila’s stunt with WTorre and the indefinite “closure” of the Allianz due to the lawn, which is about to be replaced, this harmony has been lost. It broke the atmosphere and no one has the right to break the atmosphere of the players and their people, the committee and their fans in their home numbers.
Sooner or later Palmeiras will return to the Allianz and will no longer need Barueri or any other stadium, but this must be definitive, without interruptions caused by a senseless war for a club that wants to win everything and is characterized by professionalism.
These abuses must be resolved so that Palmeiras and its fans do not suffer during the season. In the Paulistão, with theoretically weaker rivals, it is possible to withstand the pressure, but, in stronger competitions, Abel’s team cannot play away from home. And Palmeiras’ home is Allianz Parque, as Palestra Itália was before.
