The departure of Corinthians, which has a Liga Forte Futebol proposal, would make Globo pay almost R$ 300 million to the clubs
Corinthians is studying the possibility of leaving the Brazilian Football League (Libra), even after agreeing a five-year agreement with the group. Timão, like Santos, has received a proposal from Liga Forte Futebol (LFF) and could change team, even after accepting the broadcast rights contract between Libra and TV Globo, valid from 2025 to 2029. The information was given first from the ‘ge’ portal.
Despite having already reached the agreement with Libra, Corinthians has not yet signed the contract. Therefore Livemode, LFF’s partner company, asked the club not to sign the agreement before hearing a new proposal. The intermediary in the negotiation is the president of the São Paulo Football Federation (FPF), Reinaldo Carneiro Bastos.
If LFF accepts the proposal, it will become part of a sort of consortium between it and Grupo União, which is also involved in the negotiation. Furthermore, Libra would have a loss that could reach R$300 million. Globo plans to pay 11% if there are fewer than nine clubs in Serie A and another 10% in the absence of Flamengo, Corinthians, Palmeiras or Sao Paulo.
Globo’s offer to Libra for the broadcast rights of the Brasileirão Brasileiro is R$1.3 billion per year. With the departure of Corinthians and Santos, TV would pay R$273 million less, which would bring it to almost R$1 billion per year.
