Aquaman 2: The Lost Kingdom premiered in December last year and became the highest-grossing film internationally in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) since 2018. The previous record is held by the first installment of the franchise.
The 2018 work raised $1.1 billion (nearly R$5.5 billion) worldwide. So far the sequel has grossed $433 million (just over R$2 billion).
In this time period, the best performing versions of the DCEU have been Black Adam AND Shazam, with $390 and $363 million respectively. In Brazil the film starring Jason Momoa was also a success, and remained at the top of the national box office for a long time.
The new film is, once again, directed by James Wan (Evocation). In addition to Jason Momoa and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, the sequel features the return of actors such as Patrick Wilson, Dolph Lundgren, Temuera Morrison and Nicole Kidman. New cast members include Indiana Moore (Pose) and Pilou Asbaek (game of Thrones).
