HBO Max subscribers will have to download a new app to access Max, Warner Bros. Discovery’s revamped streaming service
Anyone who woke up this Tuesday (27th) expecting to see the HBO Max apps transformed into Max on their smartphone or even on their TV was shocked to see that nothing had changed. This is because, although the company has announced that the platform change will occur automatically and without the need for any intervention from the user, the truth is that the new service also depends on a new app.

In this way, the Brazilian user who wishes to navigate the platform streaming which brings together content from HBO, Warner and Discovery, you will need to go to the app store on your phone or TV and download the Max app. This applies to both Android and iOS devices, as well as smart TVs SAMSUNG AND LG and inside too PlayStation 5as tested by Canaltech.
The good news is that, despite having to download a new app, the Login access remains the same. So, if you are already a subscriber to HBO Max, just enter the same credentials as before and you’re done.
Additionally, anyone attempting to access the discontinued service’s application will see a screen directing them to the device’s app store. Interestingly, even on Tuesday morning it was possible to browse HBO Max normally and even access some of the content presented as exclusive to Max. Around 10 am, however, this was no longer possible.

What is Max?
Although it is considered the company’s new streaming service, Warner Bros. Discovery, Max is much more of a revamped version of the HBO Max we had up until then. The change that will take place this Tuesday in Brazil and other Latin American countries (27) repeats the movement that already occurred in the United States in 2023 and is more part of an internal movement within the company than a real change of proposal.

In practice, Max represents more the arrival of Discovery+ content on the service than another major and significant change. This includes reality shows, series and children’s productions, broadening the range of titles and giving the platform more strength to engage audiences of different ages and profiles.
Therefore, subscribers will have access to films and series from HBO, Warner Bros, DC, Cartoon Network and Adult Swim already available on HBO Max and will also have programs created for channels such as Discovery Channel, Home & Health, Investigation Discovery and Discovery Kids.
New values
The move from HBO Max to Max-only also represented a change in the amounts Brazilians paid for the service. With the new plans, the final price has become a little higher.
In an interview with FreeGameGuide, Juan Solá, LATAM streaming leader at Warner Bros. Discovery, justified the price increase with the growth of content supply. According to him, having all HBO, Warner Bros and Discovery productions adds more value to the platform.
