Adapted from Mark Brooks’ post-apocalyptic novel, World War Z brought a new dimension to the zombie movie subgenre in 2013. On an international scale worthy of big disaster movies like The Day After Tomorrow or Independence Day, the director of this feature film. Brad Pitt has performed in various locations around the world, including New Jersey, South Korea, Israel and Wales.
The most expensive horror movie of all time
Directed by Marc Forster (who we also owe Quantum of Solace, the 22nd James Bond adventure), World War Z follows the adventures of Gerry Lane, a former United Nations investigator forced to return to work to stop a transformative global pandemic. Infected people become real threats to fellow citizens.
Due to the ambition of the visual effects and the variety of shooting locations, the film achieved a significant budget of 190 million dollars, making it (according to the most recently published rating MovieWeb site), the most expensive horror film of all time. In second place we find Van Helsing and his 160 million dollars, then Wolfman (150 million).
A real box office success
A significant initial investment, then, the feature film still managed to post a remarkable $540 million worldwide box office score. It’s enough to offer him the opportunity to start working on a sequel.
Thus, for several years, World War Z 2 was discussed, always with Brad Pitt and under the direction of David Fincher, who already had the opportunity to work with the actor three times (in Se7en, Fight Club and Benjamin Button). Unfortunately, due to several logistical reasons, the project was eventually cancelled.
Will it be on the table again one day? Want to see the new World War Z from Fincher?
