In a competitive market, keeping employees in the same company for a long time is one of the main challenges for companies and human resources professionals. With changing habits and priorities, Brazilian workers have begun to look for opportunities that not only meet their basic needs, but can go beyond. They are interested, for example, in companies that take care of well-being and health, guarantee recognition and good remuneration.
According to a study conducted by Robert Half, a recruitment consultancy firm, 64% of workers plan to change companies in 2024. The reasons include professional growth, rising salaries, better benefits and the preference for a remote or hybrid. This index can be a warning for companies that do not want to lose their employees.
“Employee departures impact a company’s processes and results, as well as generating wasted time and financial costs. Today, find new talents. It is important for managers to observe their subordinates closely, trying to know their level of satisfaction and understanding how to keep them engaged,” explains Wander Luiz Camargo, head of organizational development at About Brazilmultinational corporate benefits company.
Thinking about the main causes that have demotivated workers and led to job changes, Wander highlighted some suggestions for companies to retain their talent throughout the year. Watch:
Professional growth
The opportunity for growth is among the main drivers of a good corporate culture. In recent years, workers have begun to look for companies that care about the career development of their employees. According to a survey by Up Brasil, 94% of job candidates evaluate what is offered by the contractor in addition to the salary, and this also includes the incentive linked to professional growth.
“Offering training courses, internal training, financial aid for degrees or learning new languages are key points,” says the organizational development manager of Up Brasil. “Perks, incentives and rewards enhance your management and prevent team turnover.”
Wellbeing and health
After many reflections provoked by the challenges of recent years, HR teams cannot leave aside the debate on health and quality of life at work.
“Employee well-being is directly related to their commitment to their role, satisfaction with the company and productivity at work,” says Wander.
Company benefits can help companies motivate their employees to adopt a more balanced lifestyle. It is therefore worth encouraging healthy eating and physical activity, as well as carrying out thematic campaigns and promoting access to the purchase of medicines, medical insurance, among others.
Better salaries
Employee motivation, recognition and even employee health are directly linked to pay.
“If people realize that the sums received are not compatible with their commitment and development, they will most likely look for opportunities that pay better. Even more so if the salary is not sufficient to cover personal expenses”, concludes Wander.
Not all companies have robust cash flow to raise the salaries of all their employees. However, today there are already benefits that can improve this scenario, such as the salary advance card. It is able to lighten your personal budget and, in addition, reduce financial stress.
