Meta’s tool that triggers alerts about missing children on Facebook and Instagram helped find a kidnapped child in Fortaleza (CE)
The police of Fortaleza (CE) managed to locate and recover a kidnapped child with the help of Amber Alert, a tool developed by Objective which posts notices about missing children in Facebook It’s inside Instagram. According to the G1 website, the victim (26 years old) was recovered last Monday and a 39-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping.

What is Amber Alert
Amber Alert exists in more than 30 countries and has been in Brazil since August 2023, the result of a partnership between Meta and the Ministry of Justice. In collaboration with the authorities, the tool triggers a notification in case of missing persons under the age of 18, all with photos and details about the case on Facebook and Instagram for all social media users in one radius of 160 km.
For this to happen it is necessary for the police authority to report the case to the Ministry of Justice, which transmits the information to Meta. The alert can last 24 hours or remain active until the authorities decide to remove it.
Those who receive the notification on social media can find details about the missing child’s appearance and additional details, such as the license plate of the car in which the person was last seen or clothing information. Meta informs that the system is used to report the most serious cases of disappearance, when suspicious circumstances exist and there is a risk of death or personal injury.
Amber Alert is only available in the states of Ceará and Minas Gerais and also in the Federal District, but should be extended to the rest of the country in the future.

In contact with G1, the deputy director of the Homicide and Personal Protection Police Station of Ceará, Ricardo Pinheiro, informed that the two-month-old baby was identified based on alerts on Meta’s social networks and that this was the third case since beginning of the case. year in which the police manage to locate a kidnapped child using the tool.
According to the authorities, the kidnapping took place on Saturday (24), and the kidnapper approached the mother to hold the child. The woman was arrested Monday, charged with kidnapping and false imprisonment.
