The military, under investigation for alleged involvement in a coup plan, is concerned about the testimony given this Friday 1st day to the federal police by former army commander Freire Gomes. But it is the interrogation of Jair Bolsonaro’s former aide-de-camp, Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid, that causes even more concern among the suspects.
According to information from journalist Bela Megale of the newspaper O Globo, among the soldiers aligned with Bolsonaro, Mauro Cid is expected to delve deeper into the analysis of the role played by each member of the Army in future statements. The perception is that the former aide-de-camp tried to protect his colleagues in the Armed Forces involved in the alleged coup plot, however the progress of the investigations could make these soldiers appear with greater emphasis in their denunciation.
The list includes high-level members of the military leadership, such as generals and former ministers Augusto Heleno, Walter Braga Netto, Paulo Sérgio Nogueira and Estevam Theophilo Oliveira.
Cid’s new testimony has not yet been scheduled, as the PF deemed it important to pursue other parts of the investigation before recalling him for questioning, especially after Freire Gomes’ testimony this Friday.
The investigators want to clarify all aspects of the coup plot before calling Mauro Cid to testify. If the clarifications provided by the former aide-de-camp do not meet expectations, there is a risk that the lieutenant colonel will lose the benefits of his complaint and be detained again.
