US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen called on Javier Milei’s government to “protect the most vulnerable” in the “difficult economic transition Argentina faces.
The appeal was launched by the North American during a meeting with the Argentine Economy Minister, Luis Caputo, on the G20 Finance platform in Sao Paulo.
“The Milei administration inherited a difficult stabilization task, but has already taken some important steps to restore fiscal sustainability, adjust the exchange rate and fight inflation,” Yellen said in a statement released after the meeting.
According to her, “there is no doubt that this has been and will continue to be a period of difficult economic transition for the Argentine people.”
“Protecting the most vulnerable during this transition will be a challenge, but it is vitally important,” he concluded.
Caputo, for his part, said that the government knows that the measures implemented by the Milei administration will be “challenging and tough”, but reiterated that the country is confident.
Finally, the Treasury Minister stated that he sees possible areas of collaboration between the United States and Argentina. .
