Anatomy of a fall: sleeping in the landscape is possible

The film Anatomy of a fall by Justine Triet never stops unleashing passions. After winning the prestigious Palme d’Or at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, he emerged as the big winner of the latest César ceremony, winning six statuettes. Besides having been critical and public success (more than one million spectators in theaters), the film was also celebrated abroad, winning two Golden Globes and being nominated five times for the Oscars (including best film and best director).

If you liked the feature film starring Sandra Hüller (who won the César for best actress), and want to immerse yourself in the snowy setting where it all began, know that the chalet in the film is available to rent on Airbnb for 90 euros per night.

The announcement posted online by the owner, Pascaline Lebordais, does not mention the film. It simply indicates that it is a rental for four people, “located in a quiet location, at 1400 m altitude, on the heights of the village of Villarembert”. The accommodation is located at the foot of the Corbier ski resort, in the Maurienne valley, in Savoie.

Eight weeks of filming

This chalet, the capital location of the film Anatomy of a fallsince this is the place where the husband was found dead (but was he killed or committed suicide?), it was brought to light by the production just two months before filming began. The owners, Pascaline Lebordais and her husband Yohann, agreed to rent it for eight weeks to Justine Triet’s teams, as they had specified in the columns of Dauphiné Libéré.

For the purpose of the film, the production had drilled two windows in the attic, which no longer exist today.

An exciting test film

As a reminder, Anatomy of a Fall tells the story of Sandra, a writer who finds herself accused of her husband’s death. Their blind, 11-year-old son is at the center of the project moral dilemma as the main witness of the event.

The film opens with Sandra, her husband Samuel and son Daniel living an isolated life in a mountain chalet in the French Alps. When Samuel is found dead outside his home, an investigation is launched to determine whether his death was the result of suicide or murder. In this context, Sandra is quickly indicted, and the the film unfolds as a legal drama that explores the relationships of power and dominance within the coupleas he meticulously examines the circumstances of Samuel’s fatal fall.
