Every day AlloCiné recommends watching a movie on TV (again). Tonight: Tom Cruise clashes with an alien invasion in a spectacular adaptation of HG Wales novel
Tom Cruise, who is currently playing in Top Gun: Maverick, has really become the epitome of an action hero in every way. In 2005, he collaborated with director Steven Spielberg (for the second time since Minority Report) on his film adaptation of War of the Worlds.
The film director is actually directing the British writer H.J. A novel by Wales written in 1898. A true master of science fiction, the latter first awakens the theme of an unearthly invasion. Thus, Spielberg captures Byron Huskin and Timothy Hines, who have previously screened the work, but also Orson Welles, who did his radio adaptation.
If the original book underscores the concerns of the 19th century, the film is set in its own time: in America, ravaged by the 9/11 attacks. Spectacular scenes of alien attacks are mixed thanks to the intimate thanks to the character of Tom Cruise. It gives his qualities to Ray Ferrier, a man trying to reunite with his ex-wife (Miranda Otto) with two children (including Revelation Dakota Fanning).
