Botafogo faces Fluminense, dreaming of qualifying for the semi-finals of the Carioca Championship

Still dreaming of qualifying for the semi-finals of the Carioca Championship, Botafogo will face Fluminense this Sunday (3), at 4pm (Brasilia time), at the Maracanã. The match is valid for the last round of the Guanabara Cup and to guarantee the decisive phase of the competition the Glorioso must win the classic and hope that Vasco stumbles against Portuguesa.

Botafogo arrive excited for the clash after inflicting a historic 6-0 defeat, in the Libertadores, against Aurora-Bol, in midweek. But the Bianconeri, who have not yet won a classic this season, need the 3 points to advance to Carioca and at the same time secure the 2025 Copa do Brasil.

In second place in the competition and with no chance of winning the Guanabara Cup, Fluminense are also coming off a victory. The tricolor won the unprecedented title of Recopa Sulamericana, after beating LDU 2-0, playing at the Maracanã. But for Carioca, the Laranjeiras team was defeated by Flamengo in the last round.

In recent retrospect, Botafogo has an advantage over its rival in the head-to-head match. The last time Fluminense defeated Glorioso was in June 2022, when defender Manoel scored the winning goal in a 1-0 win at the Nilton Santos Stadium.
