With Dune: Second Part in theaters for a few days, TF1 is logically taking advantage of the broadcast opportunity The first part of this ambitious work of science fiction. If you want to refresh your memory before going to see part two, you know what to do!
The first Dune, due in theaters in 2021, tells the story of Paul Atreides (played by Timothée Chalamet, who wanted to become an actor after seeing a famous superhero movie), destined to experience an extraordinary fate that is completely beyond him. Because if he wants to save the future of his family and people, he will have to go to the most dangerous planet in the universe.
After David Lynch’s version, it’s Denis Villeneuve’s turn to Frank Herbert’s literary monument. And the result, rated 4.2 out of 5 by AlloCiné viewers, is grand: Dune is a work of insane ambition, a dense and epic SF spectacle that is a fascinating cinematic experience.
Denis Villeneuve discovered the novel Dune As a teenager, she was immediately fascinated by his poetry and nature talks. “At the time, I was a science student and hesitant to become a director or a biologist. So Herbert’s approach to ecology seemed powerful to me.”declares the man who has already taken on a rather difficult challenge with Blade Runner 2049. “His vision of nature was fascinating, which he demonstrated through the magnificent ecosystems of his invention.”
Timothy, that’s all!
His study was a metaphor for the influence and chaos created by colonialism for the 20th century, which is still valid today. The Canadian film director continues. “And it was in this context that a young man struggling with his identity and trying to find his place in the world developed, just like I did at the time. The way Paul discovers his identity through another civilization was, in my eyes, extraordinary.”
At the head of an absolutely insane cast we find a young Timothée Chalamet in the lead role of Paul Atreides. “Timothy’s choice turned out to be very simple: there was no casting!”Villeneuve beamed. “I was only considering Timothy. I didn’t have a plan B. In other words, I was making a movie. Dune With Timothée Chalamet, that’s all. (…) He is a great actor, charming and wonderful. It takes an actor of great strength to pull off a film like this, and Timotee has several qualities that made me want to give him the role.”
Fans of science fiction and spectacular cinema, do not miss the opportunity to (re)discover Denis Villeneuve’s fantastic Dune!
Tonight on TF1 at 21:10.
