who is he with
In Mare Sheehan’s cover we find Kate Winslet. A strong character who is unpleasant, he sees his personal life fall apart at the same time as he investigates the murder of a young girl.
For this occasion, he teams up with Detective Colin Zabel, played by Evan Peters, who is the polar opposite of the roles we’ve seen on TV in recent years (especially Dahmer…)
Guy Pearce – who already played Kate Winslet in Mildred Pierce – plays the author who forgives Mara. And the excellent Jean Smart (Legion, The Watchman) plays Helen, Mare’s mother, who lives with him, his daughter and grandson.
Is it worth checking out?
At a glance, Easttown handles all of the proven recipes for a whodunit Classic: A small gray town with its gallery of residents who may be hiding dirty secrets, a cop whose chaotic personal life doesn’t stop him from throwing himself body and soul into the investigation…
We easily find resonances with Broadchurch or True Detective. However, this mini-series subverts all of these elements to do something else. deeper.
In the small town of Easttown, Mare stumbles upon an investigation that cannot find a solution. A teenager’s disappearance that dates back a year has left the town traumatized.
The missing woman’s mother continues to travel heaven and earth to find her daughter, making televised statements and denouncing police inefficiency. It was hard to swallow the one who searched the entire region for the young girl.
On the private side? Total route. Divorced Mare lives opposite her ex-husband, who rebuilt her life. She lost her son, leaving behind a 4-year-old boy. And she is raising him alone with her mother, Helen, teenage daughter and granddaughter. Not a very encouraging picture for this woman who has been severely tested by life.
Naturalistic drama
Brad Ingelsby’s mini-series, shot in the real town of Easttown, Pennsylvania, with low skies and moody clouds, doesn’t try to play with any stylistic effects. She chooses to be almost completely undressed.
Starting with Kate Winslet, photographed au naturel, wearing jeans, hiking boots and shapeless T-shirts. and greater local emphasis.
Despite appearances, not everything is gray in this series. At the most unexpected moments, there is a cruel joke here, a burst of laughter there. Although he doesn’t spare them, Brad Ingelsby refuses to lock his characters in the dark.
The survival instinct always appears where you least expect it. At every moment, it reveals the raw humanity in the midst of an expertly woven tangle of investigations that affect everyone.
It is also the story of a community living almost in isolation. There isn’t a soul in Easttown that Mare hasn’t known since early childhood. Anonymity does not exist in these corners where people spend their whole lives.
This set of portraits, painted with incredible sharpness, takes over the criminal case. Mare of Eastown presents a gallery of ordinary but no less interesting people.
Starting with Mari herself, a complex woman, difficult to understand, but fascinating in every way with the strength and tenacity of her character.
