‘He was really ready’: Austin Butler improvised a strange scene in Dune 2!

A true rising star in Hollywood, Austin Butler has been involved in several projects this year, between Masters of Air and Jeff Nichols’ next film, The Bikeriders. But now the American actor is making waves with his performance in Dune: Part Two.

Elvis’ former interpreter has joined the cast of the Dune sequel, the first installment of Denis Villeneuve’s seminal SF saga, which adapts one of his favorite literary works, that of Frank Herbert.

Austin Butler has joined the cast of Dune: Part II to play an important character, namely an antagonist who is both charismatic and terrifying. He plays Fayd-Rauta Harkonen, brother of Count Gloss Rabanne (Dave Bautista) and nephew of Baron Vladimir Harkonen (Stellan Skarsgård).

It is presented in a large-scale scene: in a black-and-white sequence, we find Fade in the arena on Giedi Prime, where he fights three opponents in epic and savage fashion, happy to see in his uncle’s eyes that he is worthy. A successor appears.

And it is with his uncle, Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, that Feid-Rauta has a strange relationship. The sadistic warrior chosen to inherit House Harkonnen, much to Rabban’s dismay, shows his “loyalty” to his uncle in a very funny way.

In a scene from Dune: Part II, Vladimir Harkonnen kisses Faid-Rauta to congratulate him on his battle and confirm his nephew’s position as heir.

And the latter returns the kiss with a kiss on the mouth, allowing him to accept his fate, but also to gain an advantage over his predecessor, whose throne he is trying to steal.

You should know that this sequence was completely improvised! Austin Butler disclosed the information in an interview Access to HollywoodHe explained that it was Stellan Skarsgård “I’m really open to any ideas” : “That’s the best. In the end, it’s always about trying to surprise your partner.”
