The phenomenon Barbie has already left its mark in the history of cinema. The film brought millions of people (mostly pink) to theaters and could win some statuettes at the 2024 Oscars. But all some fans want is confirmation of a sequel. There is good news for them. Director Greta Gerwig does not rule out this possibility.
During a TIME magazine event, the director and screenwriter explained what convinced her to make the doll’s first feature film. And she said she needed to find a “exciting” story to agree to direct Barbie2.
My North is always ‘what do I love deeply?’, or ‘what do I really care about?’. I always look for the story beneath the story. When I thought about making Barbie, I remembered going to the toy store as a child and loving those dolls, their hair. And my mother wasn’t sure that was a good thing.

For the director, this personal experience generated the story of generational conflict that is at the center of the story of Barbie. As for a sequel, she said she would love to get back together with the film’s team. But she issued a warning: “if you find the right lines [para uma continuação], we can do something. If you don’t find it, we won’t have any more.” The information comes from Omelette.
