It is currently the number 1 film in the world. Four years after the release of the first part on Netflix, Code 8 part 2 once again immerses us in a dystopian world where the bounty hunters – mutants with powers – are hunted by the police. Cousins Robbie Amell and Stephen Amell return to their respective roles of Connor and Garrett.
Police mistake
The first has just been released from prison and is on the run from his ex-boyfriend, who runs a lucrative psycho-trafficking business. This drug is synthesized from the spinal cord of gifted people.
When we find Garrett in this suite, he’s running his small business from the Towers, where Sergeant King (Alex Millar Jr.) is turning a blind eye in exchange for a bribe. But when a young girl, Pav, witnesses a police mistake, Connor and Garrett are forced to work together to protect her.
After capturing K9—a robotic dog that killed an unarmed dealer—Pav uses his powers to transmit the dog’s memories to the city’s screens. Everyone discovers the true face of Sergeant King, who lied about using K9s. He is taken to prison, as is Garrett.
In the end, the good guys win (or almost)
We find Garrett out of prison, where he’s watching the news on TV. We learn that King has been brought before a judge on corruption charges, and he’s certainly not the only one who took bribes. If it is not clear who is involved in this case, it can be explained in section 3 of Code 8. And this is not the only question left unanswered.
We discover that despite the drug bust, the psychedelic trade has never been stronger in Lincoln City, and that an “unknown source” is behind it all. Who is ?
Garrett’s smile may indicate that he had everything planned from the beginning and that he continues to run his business even behind bars. Or that a third character will enter the world.
The open ending of Part 2 of Code 8 leaves room for a sequel. If a third part isn’t currently on the cards, the writers have laid the groundwork anyway. And the success of the two films (which are currently number 1 and 2 respectively on Netflix) could prompt the US giant to give them the green light rather quickly.
