The world came to light this Friday with the news that the legendary Akira Toriyama, creator of the Dragon Ball series, passed away on March 1, at the age of 68. The story of Goku and his friends is the greatest work of the mangaka’s life, with global success and influence for decades. However, Toriyama was also the author of other works of great quality.
Doctor Slump
It was with Dr. Slump that Toriyama first became famous, even before Dragon Ball. The manga tells the story of a human-like robot with his creator. The manga was published between 1980 and 1984, while the anime adaptation, created by Toei Animation, had 243 episodes and was broadcast on Japanese TV between 1981 and 1986.
The work also received an anime remake, consisting of 74 episodes, originally broadcast from 1997 to 1999. Other products are derived from Toriyama’s creation, such as novels, electronic games and animated films.
Land of sand
Sand Land is a short but well-known work by Akira Toriyama. The manga is set in an apocalyptic world with water shortages, a tyrannical king, and citizens constantly fighting for survival. At the center of this context is the protagonist Beelzebub, the prince of demons, who aims to find the Phantom Lake.

Jaco the galactic policeman
Here we are talking about a story that takes place in the same universe as Dragon Ball. Jaco is the protagonist of the manga, a galactic policeman who arrives on planet Earth to protect it from alien attacks. His journey takes place years before the events of “Dragon Ball”, in an alien attack that the protagonist imagined would bring Goku to our world.
The character appears again in Dragon Ball Super, the most recent version of Toriyama’s most famous work.

Cowa
Cowa is a work with a childish tone and is also shorter, with only fourteen chapters. In the plot, a trio of monsters embark on a journey to find a medicine that will save their monster friends. The manga was published in Shonen Jump magazine between 1997 and 1998.
