Actress and screenwriter Veronica Debom has prepared an exclusive list of films and series that she recommends to be watched in March
Thinking about International Women’s Day, the actress and screenwriter Veronica Debom selected films and series that tell the stories of women in different ways. She gave preference to productions directed and designed by women. Check out the complete list accompanied by comments from its curator:
Fleabag (Amazon Prime Video)
I preferably recommend the second season, which is designed for audiovisual purposes, while the first is an adaptation of the play of the same name, both from Phoebe Waller-Bridge. It’s simply perfection in series form. Each phrase is either a joke, or makes you want to put it on a t-shirt and wear it. Many are both. If I don’t put this at the top of the list, I get fined.
Girls (HBO Max)
An unmissable series, written, directed and performed by a Lena Dunham brand new. It’s like a Sex and the City indie. It also tells the story of four friends, so you can identify with each of them at different times.
Frances Ha (MUBI)
It is a delicate and poetic film that talks — among other dilemmas of adult life — about female friendship as a substitute for romantic love. And it’s from our Barbie girl, Greta Gerwig, who never made a mistake. She wrote along with the Noah Baumbachwho directs the film, but let’s ignore that information.
What Time Does She Return? (Globoplay)
This is an iconic film by the director Anna Muylaerta very Brazilian social critique, as well as being full of beautiful metaphors.
The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (Netflix)
This is for those who like humor that wanders into the absurd. But, in fact, it’s just a magnifying glass that exaggerates everything to show things exactly as they are. Co-created and scripted by Tina Feywhich is recognized for works of this type.
Sex Education (Netflix)
Created by Laurie Nunn (these British…), it’s more delicious than chocolate. You can go back to adolescence in the hilarious and spicy dramas of the young people of Moordale High.
I Am Not an Easy Man (Netflix)
Right on the heels of Women’s Day, for me, this comedy, written and directed by the French Éléonore Pourriat is essential, managing to be light without being silly.
My Sister and Me (Cinemas)
Directed by Susana Garcia, this film is still in theaters. I’m suspicious, just because I’m in the script (and as an actress too). But he is wonderful and full of talented women, he is…
