Robert Downey Jr. won the statuette for best supporting actor at the 2024 Oscars for his performance in Oppenheimer. In his speech, in addition to thanking his family, the actor remembered his lawyer, “who got me out of prison many times” and joked about his moments of recovery when he used drugs.
He thanked his wife, Susan Downey, “who found me when I was a stray puppy and made me better,” but reported that his childhood was “terrible.”
“I would like to thank my terrible childhood and the Academy in that order.”
