Tonight on TV: When Kirk Douglas and Burt Lancaster team up, we have a Western masterpiece

If you’re a fan of westerns and had plans other than watching a movie on the couch this Monday night, cancel everything! Because art’s western broadcast is one of the best in its genre: scoring at the OK Corral with Kirk Douglas and Burt Lancaster will only make you happy.

Sheriff and Checker

It was released in cinemas in 1957. Settling scores at the OK Corral (yes, yes, you’ve heard this title at least once in your life), tells the story of Wyatt Earp (Lancaster), the sheriff of Dodge City, who is on the trail of outlaws. At the saloon, he meets notorious gambler Doc Holliday (Douglas, whose film is a must-see), an ex-dentist turned alcoholic but gifted with a trigger. Together and with the help of the two Earp brothers, they set out to clean up the city by attacking the Clanton’s gang of assassins.

This great Western classic, inspired by the true events of the OK Corral shootout, is enhanced by the legendary duo that formed Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas. Nicknamed “Hollywood’s Terrible Twins,” the two men will meet again nine years later in “Man in the Bay,” already produced by Hal B. by Wallis. Moreover, they agreed to film the western under the contract that bound them to the latter.

Directed by the great John Sturgess (Fort Bravo, Mercenaries, The Great Escape), Settling scores at the OK Corral allowing us to find a very young Dennis Hooper in the casting. A huge public success in French cinemas with almost 3.2 million viewers, this major Western comes to your living room tonight. Hard to resist, right?
