RS will have a week of high temperatures and the possibility of record heat this year

Without rain and low humidity, thermometers can exceed 36°C in several cities in Rio Grande do Sul.

Rio Grande do Sul is preparing for a week of intense heat and no rain. A high atmospheric pressure system will dominate in the region, which will reduce air humidity and intensify the sensation of heat. Temperatures are expected to rise gradually throughout the week, with the possibility of breaking the annual record in several cities in Rio Grande do Sul.

No rain and low humidity:

According to meteorologist Josélia Pegorim, of Climatempo, the humidity level in the state can reach 20% to 30%. This condition, combined with the absence of cloud cover, prevents the formation of clouds and, consequently, the occurrence of rain.

Deflected cold front:

The cold front approaching the extreme south of the RS on Wednesday (13th) will be diverted towards the high seas due to the high pressure system. This means no rain is expected for most of the state this week.

Chance of rain showers:

From Wednesday onwards, rain showers with lightning could occur in the southern half of the state, in regions such as the south coast, Campanha, the center and the western border. On Thursday, the chance of rain will extend into the southern half starting in the afternoon, but no instability is yet expected for the Metropolitan Region, Serra, Litoral, Planalto and Missões.

Friday with thunderstorms:

On Friday (15th), high pressure loses strength, allowing rain showers on Rio Grande do Sul, with the risk of thunderstorms, especially in the region bordering Uruguay.

Heat record at risk:

High temperatures could break annual records in several cities in Rio Grande do Sul. In Porto Alegre, maximum temperatures could reach 35°C on Wednesday and 36°C on Thursday, exceeding the 36.5°C recorded on January 14th.

Other cities could also see record temperatures. On Tuesday in Santa Maria, Uruguaiana and São Luiz Gonzaga temperatures could reach 37°C. In Santa Rosa the temperature can reach 38°C. Even in mountain towns, such as Bom Jesus, the maximum temperature can reach 30°C on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Recommendations:

In intense heat, it is important to take measures to protect yourself from dehydration and the effects of the sun. Drink plenty of water, wear light, fresh clothing, avoid outdoor physical activity in warmer weather and use sunscreen with a high protection factor.
