Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Monday that the situation on the war front with Russia was the best in three months, with Moscow’s troop advance halted after capturing the eastern town of Avdiivka last month.
Zelenskiy said in an interview with French television BFM that Ukraine had improved its strategic position despite the weapons shortage, but suggested the situation could change if there were no new supplies.
“The situation is much better than in the last three months,” Zelenskiy said in French.
“We had some difficulties due to the shortage of artillery shells, the air blockade, Russian long-range weapons and the high intensity of Russian drone attacks.”
“We worked very efficiently … against the Russian air force. We recovered in our situation in the east. The advance of the Russian troops was stopped,” he said.
The seizure of Avdiivka by Kremlin forces gave it room to maneuver to defend the Russian-controlled regional center of Donetsk, 20km to the east.
